NairoBits Trust celebrated the graduation of students from the Transformative Community Skills Programme (TCSP) and the Innovative Community Skills Programme (ICSP) — a day that closes one chapter and opens another for every graduate who walked across the stage.
Graduation at NairoBits is never only about a certificate. Most of our students arrive having been told, in one way or another, that technology careers are not for people from their neighbourhoods. Finishing the programme is the first formal evidence many of them have that this was never true.
Breaking barriers
The barriers our graduates cleared to reach this point are rarely academic. They are the cost of transport to class, caregiving responsibilities at home, unreliable electricity and connectivity, and the pressure to abandon training for any immediate source of income. Every graduate in this cohort negotiated some version of that list, and kept coming back.
TCSP and ICSP are built with those realities in mind. Both combine technical instruction with the practical and personal skills that determine whether training converts into work: communication, collaboration, financial literacy and the confidence to walk into a room and make a case for yourself.
Empowering lives
From here, graduates move into our placement and mentorship pathways — internships, junior roles, freelance work and, for some, enterprises of their own. Our alumni network stays with them well beyond the ceremony, and a good number return later as mentors and facilitators for the cohorts behind them.
Our thanks go to the families who supported these students, to the facilitators and mentors who taught and challenged them, and to the partners and funders who make these programmes possible.
To the TCSP and ICSP graduates: congratulations. The work starts now.
